What is braid yarn

Extrusion coated yarn for harness braiding

Braid yarn is a high-tenacity synthetic multifilament core fully encapsulated in an extruded polymer jacket. Braided around an electrical wire bundle, it forms a protective sleeve that shields the harness against abrasion, weathering, temperature swings and aggressive fluids.

Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) is the proven standard. For the most demanding chemical and thermal environments we also supply PVDF and TPE coated braid yarns.

PVC as standard

The proven base for harness protection

Our PVC compound is engineered with proprietary additives for exceptional weathering, moisture and abrasion resistance, cold flexibility, fire resistance with retardance, and resistance to oil, grease and engine fluids. PVC also delivers a uniform surface that braids cleanly at high production speeds.

PVDF and TPE for the toughest jobs

Where PVC reaches its limits, our PVDF and TPE coated braid yarns take over — engineered for extreme temperatures, aggressive chemicals and demanding mechanical loads.

PVDF — Polyvinylidene Fluoride

A fluoropolymer coating with outstanding chemical and thermal stability. Specified where harnesses face aggressive solvents, fuels or sustained high temperatures.

  • Temperature: continuous service up to ~150 °C
  • Chemicals: excellent against acids, hydrocarbons and fuels
  • Applications: automotive, aerospace, chemical processing

TPE — Thermoplastic Elastomer

A flexible elastomeric coating delivering superior abrasion resistance and cold-flex performance. Ideal for harnesses that move, vibrate or operate at low temperatures.

  • Temperature: flexible down to ~–40 °C, up to ~125 °C
  • Mechanical: superior abrasion and flex-fatigue resistance
  • Applications: construction, agriculture, off-highway equipment

Why braiding

Braiding outperforms tapes, sleeves and fittings

Practical advantages of a braided sleeve over conventional harness protection.

  • No liquid or moisture retention
  • No trapping of particulate matter
  • Heat dissipation
  • Minimal wire-to-wire movement
  • Smaller harness diameter
  • Flexible even at low temperatures
  • No tape or fittings required
  • Easier installations
  • Tamper-proof
  • Retains appearance over time
  • Enhanced wear resistance
  • Longer harness lifetime
